When Night Falls

A QUICK NOTE TO TOURISTS: It’s a famous coastline in Kota Kinabalu – Tanjung Lipat. The night view can be beautiful.  But due to the dark surrounding, it’s used to be famous on robbery cases too, even though the main road is just few meters away.  Since I went there alone last night, so I setup everything fast and did some fast shooting, and then left.

Burning Moon

Went to my parents’ house last night and saw this beautiful night sky. Thought I might as well put it up here too.

Kiansom Waterfall

Yesterday afternoon after a quick lunch, I thought why not go to the small waterfall which located not far away from where I live, to practice some blur water shots. Thinking of those waterfall photos from magazines which are always breathtaking to me, without delay, packed up my stuff and there I go.

1st Tried on Dusk and Night

Saw this beautiful sky in an evening while I was at my back yard checking out my cats.

Some night sky shots from my garage (using 18-55mm kit lens).  It’d be nice if I had a zoom lens…

1st Shoot Out with My D5000

After I have been playing with the camera setting, the best thing to do next is to bring it outdoor to try it out.  Sitting in front of the PC means less shooting, so there I go. 1st weekend after I bought the camera, and I was lucky enough that the weather was fine on that day.

Pet Shots (using Articulated LCD)

These are small animals.  Trying to photograph them with lens pointing at their eye level with fixed screen LCD when they are lying down won’t be an easy task, at least to me.

My youngest sister’s naughty little doggy.  Anyway, this was where the Articulated LCD came useful.  Camera was held near to floor level.  It won’t be easy if it’s a fixed screen.

I had a hard time trying to get a close-up shot of my Siamese (she was quite shy in front of the camera), she walked away every time she saw the AF lens turning in front of her.  Anyway, after a few hard tried, I finally got a shot of her beautiful blue eyes.

Some Test Shots from Nikon D5000

I did some test shots when I just got the camera to get myself familiar with the settings, mode, and dials.  The pictures quality and colour are at top-notch, at least to my untrained-eyes.  No complain at all at this price range.  Pictures below are straight from camera except the size has been reduced..

Back to Photography

Just a couple months back, me and my friend were talking about how digital camera has changed the way we take photos. Rewind my memory back to 15 years ago, we used to go out to take photos in film, using SLR camera. During that time, photo shooting was not as convenient as today consider we have to buy films, and the cost to develop in photo lab. Not to mention results can only be seen after photos were developed in lab, the whole day photo session can be ruined by small careless mistakes too. Due to we were student during that time, we can hardly afford to go to photo lab few times a week...and our equipments were borrowed from relatives or parents.

We put down our camera after we finished college to pursue our career. During the past few years, although we did snap some pictures, we were only using "point-and-shoot" camera as it's more affordable. Until recently, the local market is flooded with DSLR and so the price has dropped to a more consumer-friendly level. So we think it's a good time to pick our camera again, to continue our long stopped hobby...

So after been looking around and some research, I finally picked my unit - a Nikon D5000. I won't go into its details and performance since there are a lot on the Internet. However, a good review can be found here.
