Water Drop

It’s a quiet night, heavy cloud has covered the whole sky, no stars, no moon light.  While I was thinking what to photograph, then this water drop idea came into my mind.

These are not continuous shots.  I took about 20 shots, then picked four which I think can put in the correct order.  Original colour was quite dull, but turned out pretty good after using “Auto Levels” and “Auto Balance” adjustments in Photoshop.

The environment was quite dim, at least to the camera sensor.  I will try it again once I have some lightings setup.

Details: 1/125 at f/5.6, ISO 200, EV +1, 300mm focal length, Flash.

When The Cloud Moves

The moon was behind some tree branches when I looked out from my garage last night, it was beautiful. But by the time I finished setting up everything, the moon has raised higher.  So I said never mind, just take a couple shots, it’s better than nothing.  The weather was a little bit windy too.

The result turned out quite unique, a ghostly feel due to the moving cloud.

AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G

Knowing that a prime lens is good for indoor photography, and since Hari Raya is also coming soon, able to capture some kampung photos during the night time will be pretty interesting.  Besides, I think the focal length is just nice for shooting family group photo too.  So after dinner and coffee, I came straight home to do some try shots to see how good it can perform.

With only two energy saver ceiling lights (Warm White 14w), hand held camera and no speedlight, I’d say the result is quite impressive.

At RM830 (approx. 260 USD), it’s not cheap consider it’s only a DX lens (amazon.com is selling at just below 200 USD).  I was thinking to get the 50mm f1.8D AF before this for portrait purpose, but without the help of auto focus (I’m short-sighted), I know it can be a problem for me to focus properly under manual mode.  But anyway, I’m definitely happy with this lens.

People @ Gaya Street

Done a few snaps this morning at Gaya Street with a friend.  This time, I went there with my new 70-300mm lens. While it’s not good for short distance snaps, staying at a corner and start capture the natural expression of people around can be fun, although some might start swearing if they do notice, or give you the !@#$ look…hahaa.

Celestial

I’ve been waiting for the clear moon to try out my new lens since I bought it few weeks back. And tonight’s sky is about right, moon is clearly visible although the cloud is heavy.  So grabbed my camera and tripod, and out to the garage before it starts raining again.  Bed time is postponed.

Dusk

I love dusk scene. Who doesn’t anyway.  Normally I will just check the sky from my backyard if I’m unable to spare some times to drive 30 minutes to the nearest best spot to catch this beautiful moment. This photo was taken at around 18:30 yesterday, during the rain break. It’d be nice if I can have a watch tower at my backyard, then all those electric posts and cables will be out of sight.

Motor Bonanza Fair 2010 – Kota Kinabalu

After I came home from the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, and while I was uploading those photos to my PC, a friend called up for afternoon tea and planning for some sunset snaps.  So after a short tea and while we are on the way to Kota Kinabalu Waterfront, it rained.  So we headed to a mini book expo in a commercial area, Asia City, since my friend wanted to buy some photography reference books. There, we found out that a motor show is in action.

It’s not the most happening motor show in town, and it’s not open space.  With no speedlight, image quality is pretty poor, and most of them are blurred due to slow shutter speed and hand shaked. But anyhow, below are some of the photos which I think are still look-able, and most importantly, we had some fun there.

What is a motor show if there is no show girls, right?  Although can’t compare with those show girls from Western countries (in terms of clothing and sexiness), they do look cute.  So there we go.
